From the 17th to the 24th of November, an international March for Peace will take place in the Holy Land. It's part of an annual pilgrimage that was launched years ago by St. John Paul II.

'It will start off in Bethlehem, where Jesus was born. From there on, it will go through Palestine into Israel and it will finish in Jerusalem, where Jesus died and rose from the dead.

The recent war along the Gaza strip between Israel and Palestine triggered world wide attention, but it also reduced the number of pilgrimages in both Israeli and Palestinian cities that rely on tourism. Some merchants are still trying to recover.

'This caused great harm, especially for those who rely on religious tourism to survive. We're hoping that through this pilgrimage we can send a strong message.â?

About 1,000 people are expected to attend this year. Organizers are hoping that visitor's personal experience will have a public impact.

'A pilgrimage in the Holy Land is not just about an experience of faith, and it's not just a prayer journey. It's also a testimony of solidarity.â?

The pilgrimage will also mark the 80th anniversary of the Opera Romana Pellegrinaggi. The trip will be headed by Cardinal Agostino Vallini.
