The Pope was recently given an electric bicycle, a small gesture in favor of alternative energy. The moment came during a meeting with global experts about the consequences of climate change.

'There are predictions from the UN about future climate refugees. The numbers are very alarming. This crisis can affect entire regions. Poor countries are the most vulnerable because they have fewer ways to mitigate the damage, to adapt, or to defend themselves from heat waves, floods, and food shortages.

POPE FRANCIS
'We are all called upon directly to be responsible by virtue of the role that we occupy in the family, in the world of work, the economy and research, in civil society and in institutions. The great enemy, in this aspect, is hypocrisy.

'Laudato Si, the Pope's ecology encyclical, was published in June. Since then, he has been working to ensure that the international climate conference in Paris this December produces an effective and bold agreement to deal with the change.

POPE FRANCIS
'A strong invitation is directed to everyone to carry out all necessary efforts to find resolutions to this social-environmental crisis and also to listen to the voices of the poorest people and countries.

During the two-day meeting held at the Vatican, new data about climate change was presented. For example, one of the experts showed that 2015 was one of the hottest years in the last century. They said humanity must act before it's too late.
