During his general audience, Pope Francis encouraged families to confront the root of many of their problems: an unwillingness to forgive. He warned that conflicts will always arise, but it's also possible to forgive them.

POPE FRANCIS
'Every day we wound others in some way or another. But we are asked to immediately heal the wounds that we've caused and to restore the connections that have been damaged.

Asking for forgiveness is always complicated. But Pope Francis explained the best way to go about it.

POPE FRANCIS
'If we wait too long, everything is harder. And if there is a simple solution, don't end the day without asking for forgiveness, without making peace, whether it's between parents and children or between siblings. A great speech isn't necessary. A handshake is enough. And like this the family can make a more solid home, resistant to our small and great misdeeds.

The Pope's strategy is not limited to asking for forgiveness inside your own home but instead creates a culture of forgiveness.

POPE FRANCIS
'The Synod has seen the capacity of forgiveness and it is not only a way to avoid division in the family, but can also be used in society, to make it less cruel and evil. Certainly, Christian families can do a lot for society and for the Church.

After his catechesis, the Pope traveled around St. Peter's Square and greeted pilgrims. He made special stops to bless children.
