With this decree, Pope Francis has recognized a miracle attributed to Mother Teresa of Calcutta. This means she will be canonized in the following months, likely in September.

The miracle is the cure of a 35-year-old Brazilian who had been in a coma following a serious stroke. His recovery was complete and instantaneous.

The Pope will likely canonize her on September 4th, during the Jubilee for Workers and Volunteers of Mercy.

Mother Teresa will become the first Nobel Peace Prize winner to be raised to the altars.

She was born in Albania in 1910 and founded the Missionaries of Charity in Calcutta 40 years later. The group helps the poorest in society. She taught the female religious she worked with to treat the sick the same way they would treat Jesus Christ.

She died in September 1997 and was beatified by Pope John Paul II in 2003.

Her congregation now includes a branch for men, and they have a total of 700 homes throughout the world.
