The number of cardinal electors drops to 115 as Cardinal Ivan Dias turns 80. Once again, shifting the demographics of the College. ;

Roger Mahony was the last cardinal to turn 80 in late February and Georges Cottier was the last cardinal to die on late March 2016.

He was Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples from 2006 to 2011. Cardinal Dias previously served as Archbishop of Bombay from 1996 until 2006.

He was created a cardinal in 2001 by Pope John Paul II, and as such voted in the papal conclaves that elected Popes Benedict XVI and Francis.
