On November 19 there will be 17 new cardinals. Thirteen of them are eligible to vote in an eventual conclave. This was the announcement that the pope gave during the Angelus on Sunday, once the Marian Jubilee had finished.

POPE FRANCIS
'They come from 11 countries expressing the universality of the Church and announcing the testimony of the Good News of God's Mercy to every corner of the Earth.'

Among the future cardinals there is one who is not a bishop, but a priest. This is a special recognition that the pope wants to offer Albanian priest, Fr. Ernesto. He spent 27 years in a communist concentration camp and his testimony moved Pope Francis during his trip to the country in September 2014.

At the Angelus, the pope also remembered those affected by Hurricane Matthew, which devastated the Caribbean in recent days.

POPE FRANCIS
'I have sadly learned about the serious consequences caused by the hurricane that, in recent days, has hit the Caribbean, particularly Haiti. It has left many victims and displaced persons, and in addition extensive material damage.'

On Friday, he sent a telegram to express his support to the families of the victims and the hundreds of thousands who were affected.
