From November 29 to December 1, Costa Rica welcomes the international ecology symposium Laudato si', which will review ecological thought by Benedict XVI and Pope Francis

The slogan is “On Care for Our Common Home, a necessary conversion on Human Ecology.” Participants will analyze countries' ecological behavior to evaluate whether or not they accept what the pope proposes in his encyclical.

Thus, in light of the symposium, the university will launch the Laudato si' observatory, which will allow these behaviors to be periodically measured and ranked.

 FERNANDO SÁNCHEZ
Dean, Catholic University of Costa Rica

“Our ultimate objective is to make an impact; to respond to what the pope is asking for, to raise awareness and create change. The idea of the symposium is to be aware of what is happening to the common home and define specific changes in best practices that effectively impact the environment in a positive way.”

The Ratzinger Foundation and the Catholic University of Costa Rica are hosting this event that will join the country's president, Luis Guillermo Solís, with world experts and authorities from the Vatican, such as Federico Lombardi, president of the Ratzinger Foundation, or Cardinals Marc Ouellet and Giuseppe Versaldi. It will involve environmental issues like lack of water or air pollution, but also education, technology or health.

The symposium now has more than 700 attendees registered and representatives from 18 countries.
