After the Chilean bishops presented their resignation letters to Pope Francis four months ago, Pope Francis has accepted the resignation of two more.

The first is Msgr. Cristián Enrique Contreras Molina (71) former bishop of San Felipe. The second is Msgr. Carlos Eduardo Pellegrín Barrera (60) who was the bishop of diocese of San Bartolomé de Chillán since 2006.

According to Chilean media, they are being investigated by prosecutors in Chile for allegedly covering up abuse cases and one for possibly committing abuse in the past.

It's a result of deepening investigations of bishops, priests and lay people in the country.

These two new resignations bring the total number that Pope Francis has accepted to seven.
