Card. Telesphore Placidus Toppo has turned 80 years old and thus loses his right to vote in a conclave.

From India, he is the archbishop emeritus of Ranchi. He was the president of the Episcopal Conference, where bishops from three rites participated: Latin, Syro-Malabar and Syro-Malankara.

He was the president delegate of the Bishop Synod on the Eucharist in Rome. There, he defended that the problem of a lack of priests was not an issue of celibacy, but the issue of a lack of faith.

“Therefore, it is the crisis of the faith that we are facing in Europe and in other places where we have no priests. Without this faith, we don't have vocations.”

The cardinal participated in the last two conclaves of Benedict XVI and Pope Francis.

The number of cardinal electors is down to 124, while the number of non-electors is now 100. The total number of cardinals remains at 224.
