According to the papal spokesperson, Matteo Bruni, the pope’s May trip to Malta has been postponed. The new date has yet to be determined, due to the current global situation. It was originally planned for May 31, 2020, his first trip outside of Italy this year.

The last time a pope visited the Mediterranean island was 10 years ago. Benedict XVI commemorated the 1,950th anniversary of St. Paul’s shipwreck on the island.

Pope Francis was expected to speak about the rights of migrants while there.
