On a day like today, 25 years ago, St. John Paul II released the encyclical 'Evangelium vitae,' on the value and inviolability of human life. Pope Francis recalled the example of the Blessed Mother, who accepted God's will and committed to care for the new life developing in her womb.

The pope recalled the importance of meditating on Our Lady's complete surrender to God in difficult times. He explained that spreading the culture of solidarity, care and welcome is necessary not only in times of emergency like the current one. He said it is necessary to contribute to building a more human world, with frankness and boldness.

On the Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord, Pope Francis reiterated John Paul II's call. “Respect, defend, love and serve life, every life, every human life! Only on this path will you find justice, growth, freedom, peace and happiness!” (Enc. Evangelium vitae)
