Pope Francis has established an emergency fund to help people and communities heavily impacted by the spread of the coronavirus.

The emergency fund will be used to accompany affected communities in mission countries.

The pope has made an initial contribution of $750,000. He asked Catholic institutions able to help, to contribute through the Pontifical Mission Societies in each country.

The Pontifical Mission Societies is a network through with the pope helps over 1,110 dioceses, primarily in Asia, Africa, Oceania and part of the Amazon region.
