“We need a global educational pact that educates us to universal solidarity, to a new humanity.”

In September 2019, the Pope called for a great world event in Rome, scheduled for May 14th, 2020.

Political leaders, people from the fields of science and culture, teachers and students were going to attend a global educational project as proposed by Pope Francis.

The goal is to seek a new kind of educational process that helps people be more respectful of others and of the environment.

The event had to be postponed because of the pandemic. However, on Oct. 15th, in Rome, the Pope will re-launch this proposal.

He will ask “all people of good will” who wish to create an education that promotes “peace, brotherhood and justice” to join this project. He will intervene through a video message.

The event will be held at the Pontifical Lateran University in Rome. The Director-General of UNESCO, Audrey Azoulay, will also participate.

In 2019 the Pope said that this was a project in accordance with the Laudato si' because it mentions the protection of what he calls “the common home,” and it involves sensitizing people and promoting education.
