The Holy See has confirmed the episcopal ordination of Thomas Chen Tianhao in Qingdao, province of Shandong, China.
That makes him the third bishop ordained under the provisional agreement between the Holy See and the People's Republic of China on the appointment of bishops.
Matteo Bruni, director of the Holy See Press Office, said other procedures are being developed for naming future Catholic bishops in China.
In October, the Vatican announced its decision to renew the deal with China and expressed its desire to “pursue an open and constructive dialogue for the benefit of the life of the Catholic Church and the good of Chinese people.”
