Despite the limitations of the Covid-19 pandemic, the International Catholic Film Festival “Mirabile Dictu” proceeded with its 11th edition and announced this year’s best film.

This year’s best film award went to the Polish production “The Day of Wrath.”

It tells the story of a Jew in German-occupied Poland who tries to hide from the Nazi persecution in a Catholic convent.

JACEK RAGINIS KRÓLIKIEWICZ
Director, “The Day of Wrath”
“The Day of Wrath” was challenging because it raised several questions for me: ‘how do I identify with the protagonists of this story? How would I act in their place? How would I behave today when faced with people who are in crisis or catastrophic situations? How am I willing to open up and do something for them?'”

The film is a tense mixture of a war thriller and a moral comedy that portrays an unexpected storyline between Catholic monks, the persecuted Jew, and the German SS officer.

“This award makes me realize that it is worth making films that deal with the relationship between Poles and Jews, but also between Christianity and Judaism.” “For me, it’s a confirmation that films that deal with moral issues are worth making.”

This is the second consecutive year that a film directed by Jacek was nominated for best film at the Mirabile Dictu Awards. This year, however, Jacek finally achieved his dream of winning the “Silver Fish.”

“I am pleased and honored to be another Polish film director awarded by the “Mirabile Dictu” festival. I hope to have the opportunity to meet the organizers in person.”

Jacek and the rest of the winners of the eleventh edition of the Mirabile Dictu 2020 will receive the prestigious Silver Fish in January due to the current Covid-19 restrictions.
