A new bishop, approved by both the Holy See and the Chinese government, has been consecrated in China. The announcement was made by Vatican spokesman Matteo Bruni.
The new bishop's name is Antonio Li Hui. He will be coadjutor bishop of Pingliang in central China.
This is the only photo of the consecration ceremony.
Bishop Li is the fifth bishop consecrated in China after Rome and Beijing signed a provisional agreement in October 2018.
In October 2020, Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, announced that the agreement had been renewed for another two years. The Holy See hopes it will allow for bishops to be appointed to the dozens of vacant dioceses in China.
