Following the Angelus, Pope Francis reflected on the parts of the world that are currently facing dire situations.

He began with Myanmar. There, the military repeatedly attacks Catholic communities and has destroyed historic churches, such as Our Lady of the Assumption in Chan Thar.

POPE FRANCIS
I am close to the helpless civilian population, which, in many cities, are undergoing severe trials. May God will that this conflict ends soon and a new time of forgiveness, love and peace be opened. Let us pray together to Our Lady for Myanmar. Hail Mary...

The Pope is also closely following the political crisis in Peru, following violent protests that have left dozens dead.

POPE FRANCIS
I encourage all parties involved to take the path of dialogue between brothers of the same nation, with full respect for human rights and the rule of law. I join the Peruvian bishops in saying,“No to violence, wherever it comes from! No more deaths! There are Peruvians here in the Piazza!

Pope Francis extended wishes for the Chinese New Year, while lamenting that many continue to suffer from the consequences of COVID. He also insisted on continuing to pray for peace in Ukraine.

At the end of the prayer, the Pope expressed his appreciation for the situation in Cameroon, where, he said, there have been positive signs that give hope for a resolution to the conflict in the Anglo-Saxon regions.
