They presented him with a candle with two flags, one of the European Union and one of the German region of Bavaria.<\/p>\n<p><em>Bavaria is in southern Germany and Pope Benedict XVI is from there.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>As Pope Francis studied philosophy and theology in Frankfurt, he speaks German.
