{"id":44245,"date":"2022-02-08T13:01:00","date_gmt":"2022-02-08T12:01:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www1.romereports.com\/2022\/02\/08\/benedict-xvi-responds-to-abuse-report-i-express-my-heartfelt-request-for-forgiveness\/"},"modified":"2022-02-08T13:01:00","modified_gmt":"2022-02-08T12:01:00","slug":"benedict-xvi-responds-to-abuse-report-i-express-my-heartfelt-request-for-forgiveness","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.romereports.com\/en\/2022\/02\/08\/benedict-xvi-responds-to-abuse-report-i-express-my-heartfelt-request-for-forgiveness\/","title":{"rendered":"Benedict XVI responds to abuse report: I express my heartfelt request for forgiveness"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Pope emeritus <strong>Benedict XVI<\/strong>'s secretary, Archbishop Georg G\u00e4nswein has released a letter in which the Pope emeritus asks for forgiveness from victims of sexual abuse.<\/p>\n<p>In it, Benedict XVI writes: <em>\u201cI can only express to all the victims of sexual abuse my profound shame, my deep sorrow and my heartfelt request for forgiveness.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>At 94 years old, the <strong>Pope emeritus<\/strong> recalls that he has <em>'had great responsibilities in the Catholic Church.\u201d<\/em> And that <em>\u201cAll the greater is my pain for the abuses and the errors that occurred in those different places during the time of my mandate.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>His letter is accompanied by a report prepared by a group of his collaborators, in which they analyze accusations alleging Benedict XVI of having mishandled up to four cases of sexual abuse as Archbishop of Munich and Freising.<\/p>\n<p>They say that: <em>\u201cIn none of the cases analyzed by the expert report was Joseph Ratzinger aware of sexual abuse committed or suspicion of sexual abuse committed by priests.' <\/em>And that <em>'The expert report provides no evidence to the contrary.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>JRB<br \/>\nTR: JM<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>February 8, 2022.
