In 2017, he celebrated Mass at the American cemetery in the town of Nettuno, near Rome.<\/p>\n<p>The French cemetery was built by the Italian government for French soldiers who fought against Nazi and Fascist troops between 1943 and 1944.<\/p>\n<p>One thousand eight hundred eighty-eight fallen soldiers are buried there, many of them of Moroccan origin. They were the so-called \u201cGoumiers,\u201d African soldiers who enlisted in the French army.
