Pope Francis addressed a few words to Paralympic athletes during his General Audience.<\/p>\n

\n<\/strong>'I greet the athletes and thank them for their witness of hope and courage. They show how a commitment to sports helps overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles.'<\/em><\/p>\n

After his catechesis, he stopped to meet a group of athletes in attendance. Among them was Gianluca Palazzi, a wheelchair basketball player and Athletica Vaticana's first Paralympic athlete.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe're from Athletica Vaticana, the Paralympic team...\u201d<\/p>\n

Palazzi gave the Pope a t-shirt.<\/p>\n

In 2019, Athletica Vaticana became the first official Vatican sports association. Its members are Vatican employees and citizens.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
