{"id":45088,"date":"2021-07-12T16:25:00","date_gmt":"2021-07-12T14:25:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www1.romereports.com\/2021\/07\/12\/cardinal-monsengwo-pasinya-dies-at-81-years-old\/"},"modified":"2021-07-12T16:25:00","modified_gmt":"2021-07-12T14:25:00","slug":"cardinal-monsengwo-pasinya-dies-at-81-years-old","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.romereports.com\/en\/2021\/07\/12\/cardinal-monsengwo-pasinya-dies-at-81-years-old\/","title":{"rendered":"Cardinal Monsengwo Pasinya dies at 81 years old"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Cardinal Laurent Monsengwo Pasinya of the Democratic Republic of the Congo has died at 81-years old.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>He was known as a fierce advocate for human rights in the Congo, particularly during the dictatorial rule of Mobutu Sese Seko, which lasted for 32 years.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Cardinal Monsengwo Pasinya also served for five years on the Council of Cardinals, a group of cardinals chosen by Pope Francis to help reform various structures in the Vatican.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>He was made a cardinal by Pope Benedict XVI in 2010.<\/p>\n<p>After his death, 221 cardinals remain in the College of Cardinals, of which 124 are elegible to vote in the next Conclave.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>JM<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>July 12, 2021.
