{"id":45353,"date":"2021-05-02T12:30:00","date_gmt":"2021-05-02T10:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www1.romereports.com\/2021\/05\/02\/louvre-lends-missing-piece-from-the-hand-of-constantine-to-museum-in-rome\/"},"modified":"2021-05-02T12:30:00","modified_gmt":"2021-05-02T10:30:00","slug":"louvre-lends-missing-piece-from-the-hand-of-constantine-to-museum-in-rome","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.romereports.com\/en\/2021\/05\/02\/louvre-lends-missing-piece-from-the-hand-of-constantine-to-museum-in-rome\/","title":{"rendered":"Louvre lends missing piece from the hand of Constantine to museum in Rome"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This nearly 5-foot tall sculpture in the Capitoline Museums is missing a finger.<\/p>\n<p>A piece which the Louvre Museum in Paris had been unable to identify in its collection for over 150 years.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Louvre has lent the missing piece to the Capitoline Museums in Rome, where it will form part of the hand of Constantine.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The sculpture is exhibited alongside the head that was part of the original statue, as well as a sphere that was in its hand.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Pope Sixtus IV gave the sculpture to the city of Rome in 1471, and it was the first piece in the Capitoline Museums.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The finger was bought by France in 1860 as part of a collection of the Marquis Giampietro Campana, who went bankrupt after being accused of embezzlement.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Now, for a time, it returns to Rome.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>JMB<\/p>\n<p>TR: JM<\/p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>May 2, 2021.
