With nearly a quarter of the country\u2019s population over the age of 65, it can be difficult for everyone who needs a vaccine to get one.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>FR. ANDREA CELLI<br \/>\n<\/strong>St. Pius X Parish (Rome)<br \/>\n<em>\u201cMy mother is 88 years old! When I took her to get vaccinated I thought about all of the elderly people in my parish who couldn\u2019t go by themselves, or who couldn\u2019t even register for the vaccine because it\u2019s done online. I thought the parish might be able to help them. 00:56<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em> \u201cCharity is lived through actions. This is an emergency we have to respond to as a Church.\u201d 01:24<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Andrea and Margherita are volunteers at St. Pius X parish in Rome. Since the fall they have been helping the elderly during the pandemic.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MARGHERITA GASPARRO <br \/>\n<\/strong>Volunteer, St. Pius X Parish (Rome)<br \/>\n<em>\u201cSince November we\u2019ve been going to Maria\u2019s house. We spend the afternoon with her and help her buy groceries at the supermarket. We give her our time, but in return she brings us great joy. Many young people are getting involved with this initiative.\u201d <\/em><\/p>\n<p>This time, Andrea and Margherita are taking Maria to get her Covid vaccine at a hospital near their church.<\/p>\n<p><em>-It\u2019s Margherita, ma\u2019am!<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>-You\u2019re here! Should I come down?<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>-We\u2019ll come up and get you!<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>MARIA PENNA<br \/>\n<\/strong><em>\u201cIt\u2019s incredible, really! They are great kids, intelligent, caring, and kind. They are like grandchildren to me! 00:15 \u2013 <\/em><\/p>\n<p>When I go to the parish church I feel at home. Father Andrea has made us better people. He\u2019s taught us the meaning of charity.\u201d 01:03<\/p>\n<p>Already wearing her mask, Maria heads outside with Margherita. Where Andrea is waiting for them on the street.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>These are the most beautiful things in life!&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The rain doesn\u2019t stop them from reaching their destination: the Santa Maria della Piet\u00e0 hospital in Rome.<\/p>\n<p>After waiting in line, Maria\u2019s name is called. Margherita stays by her side, attentive to every detail until they finally reach their goal: receiving the vaccine.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a simple gesture of charity in a time of struggle.
