He says it was a free and premeditated decision and that it was not the result of any conspiracy.<\/p>\n<p>This is what he said:<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cSome friends of mine, somewhat fanatical, are still angry and refuse to accept my decision. I'm referring to conspiracy theories.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>They don't want to believe that it was a premeditated decision. But my conscience is at peace.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Benedict appears worried about Pope Francis' trip to Iraq, because of the country's instability and the pandemic.
