{"id":45982,"date":"2020-11-23T19:29:00","date_gmt":"2020-11-23T18:29:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www1.romereports.com\/2020\/11\/23\/five-nba-players-meet-with-pope-francis-to-discuss-social-issues\/"},"modified":"2020-11-23T19:29:00","modified_gmt":"2020-11-23T18:29:00","slug":"five-nba-players-meet-with-pope-francis-to-discuss-social-issues","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.romereports.com\/en\/2020\/11\/23\/five-nba-players-meet-with-pope-francis-to-discuss-social-issues\/","title":{"rendered":"Five NBA players meet with Pope Francis to discuss social issues"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A delegation from the National Basketball Players Association met with Pope Francis in the library of the Apostolic Palace.<\/p>\n<p>Among those present were five players, Kyle Korver, Marco Belinelli, Sterling Brown, Anthony Tolliver and Jonathan Isaac.<\/p>\n<p>They each got a chance to share their different social initiatives with the pope.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe all have so many things that are wrong with us and that are wrong with our society, and we see it and we know it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The pope thanked them for using basketball as a means to help solve social problems. He also praised them for setting an example of teamwork.<\/p>\n<p><strong>POPE FRANCIS<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>\u201cThe beauty of athletes is that they are great, but to be part of a team, they always remain humble.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>These athletes didn't come empty-handed. The pope happily accepted this golden Spalding basketball.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThank you, thanks so much.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThank you for having us.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThis is a book put together, you know, by the players association, of mediator things that us players have done to use our voices and to fight for equality, unity, justice.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Jonathan Isaac gave him an autographed jersey...<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThis is on behalf of the Orlando Magic and myself.
