Squeezing them out, as if the earth were an orange.\u201d That's how Pope Francis begins his video for the September prayer intention.<\/p>\n<p>The pope says \u201ccountries and businesses from the global north have enriched themselves by exploiting the natural resources of the south, creating an 'ecological debt.'\u201d He poses the question: \u201cWho is going to pay this debt?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Pope Francis says it is outrageous that the \u201cecological debt\u201d should increased because of multinationals doing \u201cabroad what they would never be allowed to do in their own countries.\u201d He says \u201ctoday, not tomorrow; today, we have to take care of Creation responsibly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That's why Pope Francis is asking to pray that \u201cthe planet's resources will not be plundered, but shared in a just and respectful manner.\u201d He says, \u201cNo to plundering; yes to sharing.\u201d<\/p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>August 31, 2020.
