He will also bless the pallia of the metropolitan archbishops appointed over the last year.<\/p>\n<p>The pallium is a woolen band draped over the archbishop's shoulders. It is white with black crosses.<\/p>\n<p><strong>POPE FRANCIS<\/strong><br \/>\nJune 29, 2019<br \/>\n<em>The pallium recalls the sheep that the shepherd is called to bear on his shoulders. It is a sign that the shepherds do not live for themselves but for the sheep.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Before Pope Francis' pontificate, the pallia were imposed at the Vatican.
