{"id":46652,"date":"2020-05-07T18:24:00","date_gmt":"2020-05-07T16:24:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www1.romereports.com\/2020\/05\/07\/masses-to-re-begin-in-italy-with-these-required-measures\/"},"modified":"2020-05-07T18:24:00","modified_gmt":"2020-05-07T16:24:00","slug":"masses-to-re-begin-in-italy-with-these-required-measures","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.romereports.com\/en\/2020\/05\/07\/masses-to-re-begin-in-italy-with-these-required-measures\/","title":{"rendered":"Masses to re-begin in Italy, with these required measures"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After a tug-of-war between the Church and State, Italian bishops signed an agreement with their government to specify how to safely celebrate Mass again.<\/p>\n<p>The first Masses will take place Monday, May 18, with these measures in place.<\/p>\n<p><strong>STEFANO RUSSO<\/strong><br \/>\nSecretary, Italian Episcopal Conference<br \/>\n<em> 'The defined protocol lays out some sanitary measures, so we can return to celebrate, while respecting everyone's health.'<\/em><\/p>\n<p>They refer to the parish, the priest and the faithful.<\/p>\n<p><ins>Church<\/ins><\/p>\n<p>Churches must limit the number of participants, to ensure a distance of one-meter at all times.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Parishes that can, should have designated entrances and exits.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Hand sanitizer must be available at the door, there is to be no holy water, and liturgical items and the microphone should be cleaned after each ceremony.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><ins>Priest<\/ins><\/p>\n<p>The priest can celebrate baptisms, weddings and funerals; but not confirmation. He must give communion with a mask and gloves.<\/p>\n<p>There won't be a collection, but donations can be placed in baskets positioned around the church.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><ins>Participants<\/ins><\/p>\n<p>Those with fever, coronavirus, or in contact with an infected person cannot attend Mass. All must wear masks, regardless.<\/p>\n<p>There will be no sign of peace, no handouts to follow along during the Mass, and no choir. However, a single organist is allowed.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, like the rest of the measures, if the number of people infected increases, religious ceremonies will be suspended again to stop the spread.<\/p>\n<p>For now, the Vatican has not announced when the pope's ceremonies with pilgrims will resume.<\/p>\n<p>JMB\/MB<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>May 7, 2020.
