He used salt, which preserves food and adds flavor to it, as an analogy to show what it means to be a Christian.<\/p>\n<p><strong>POPE FRANCIS<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>The disciple is called to keep far away from society, dangers and corrosive germs which pollute people's lives. That means resisting moral degradation and sin. It means witnessing through values of honesty and fraternity, without falling into worldly illusions of careerism, power and wealth.<br \/>\n<\/em><br \/>\nThe pope then said Christians are called to be light in the world. He said Christ calls them not to hide out of fear in front of violence and oppression.<\/p>\n<p>After the Angelus, the pope spoke out against the \u201cwound\u201d of human trafficking that persists in parts of the world. He said tech companies have a responsibility to help prevent criminal organizations from using modern means of communication to entrap victims.<\/p>\n<p><strong>POPE FRANCIS<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>To heal this wound\u2014because it is a real wound\u2014which takes advantage of the most vulnerable, we need the commitment of everyone.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>He also renewed his appeal to the international community to safeguard civilians suffering in the \u201cbeloved and martyred Syria.'<\/p>\n<p><strong>POPE FRANCIS<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>There continues to be painful news from northwestern Syria, in particular on the conditions of so many women and children.
