The pope received the credentials of the new ambassador of Georgia, Princess Kh\u00e9t\u00e9vane Bagrationi-Orsini.<\/p>\n
The diplomat, who was an ambassador at the Vatican from 2005 to 2014, attended the meeting accompanied by her collaborators and her 94-year-old mother.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is something unbelievable! My mother will remember it for the rest of her life.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI am so happy, so happy.\u201d<\/p>\n
The pope was especially affectionate toward the elderly woman. He constantly extended his hand to her throughout the reception.<\/p>\n
The ambassador gave Pope Francis a mosaic by a Georgian artist depicting St. Joseph's dream... She also gave him this cross made by young people from Caritas Georgia... a book of Georgian script and images of ancient manuscripts... and this bottle of red wine with elaborate designs made by refugees from South Ossetia.<\/p>\n
The new ambassador belongs to a branch of the Bagrationi family, who ruled in Georgia from the Middle Ages until the 19th century.<\/p>\n
