Until now, he was the number two of the Gendarmerie.<\/p>\n<p>He replaced Domenico Giani, who presented his resignation to the pope on Oct. 15, after a police document was leaked to the press.<\/p>\n<p>Giani investigated the leak for two weeks without successfully identifying who leaked the document.
