Barbarin traveled to Rome to present his resignation to the pope.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>He and the pope met privately. The Vatican and the Archdiocese of Lyon published this photo the day after the meeting.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday, the archdiocese said Pope Francis did not accept the cardinal's resignation, \u201cinvoking the presumption of innocence.\u201d It is therefore left to Card. Barbarin to ultimately decide his next move.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>For the time being, Card. Philippe Barbarin has chosen to withdraw from his duties. The diocese will now be under the guidance of the Vicar General.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Card. Barbarin was sentenced to six months imprisonment for failing to report a pedophile priest in his diocese.
