There he presided over the Mass for Ash Wednesday.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>After his homily, the pope blessed the ashes before being the first to receive them on his head by Jozef Tomko. He is the cardinal of this basilica.<\/p>\n<p>Afterward, Pope Francis placed the ashes on the heads of some cardinals, bishops and others in attendance for this ceremony.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>March 6, 2019.
