In his weekly General Audience, Pope Francis continued his catechesis on the \u201cOur Father\u201d prayer. This week he focused on the \u201cfirst of the seven invocations, 'hallowed by thy name.'\u201d<\/p>\n
He said in this invocation one sees the pattern of all prayer. These are contemplation of God and sincere supplication for one's needs. <\/p>\n
The pope added that God's knows one better than they know themselves and people should not be afraid to entrust themselves to Him; and ask God to sanctify oneself, their families, communities and the whole world. <\/p>\n
Pope Francis stressed that \u201cGod sanctifies and transforms us by his love.\u201d He concluded by saying God casts out every fear, \u201cthe Son lifts up his arms to support ours, and the Spirit works in a hidden way for the redemption of the world.\u201d<\/p>\n
SUMMARY OF POPE'S CATECHESIS<\/strong><\/p>\n Dear Brothers and Sisters, <\/p>\n In our continuing catechesis on the \u201cOur Father\u201d, we now turn to the first of the seven invocations, \u201challowed by thy name\u201d. <\/p>\n Here we see the pattern of all prayer, which is always made, on the one hand, in contemplation of God, and on the other, in a sincere supplication for our needs. <\/p>\n When we speak to God, He already knows us better than we know ourselves, for even if God is a mystery to us, we are not an enigma in His eyes. <\/p>\n He is like a mother for whom a simple glance enables her immediately to perceive the condition of her children. <\/p>\n A first step in prayer, then, is to entrust ourselves to God and His providence. This leads us to pray:<\/p>\n \u201cHallowed be thy name,\u201d where we not only express our trust in God\u2019s greatness, but also ask that His name be sanctified in us, in our families, our communities and the whole world. <\/p>\n We can do this because it is God who sanctifies and transforms us by his love. Prayer casts out every fear, since the Father loves us, the Son lifts up his arms to support ours, and the Spirit works in a hidden way for the redemption of the world. <\/p>\n I greet the English-speaking pilgrims and visitors taking part in today\u2019s Audience, especially those from England, Wales, Norway and the United States of America.
