In this communication, the Vatican has announced that Fr. Hermann Geissler 'submitted his resignation from office' in the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith.<\/p>\n
The priest, the former head of the doctrinal section of the Congregation, said it's to lessen the scandal, yet insists of his innocence. <\/p>\n
The accusations have come from a woman in his same congregation, Familia spiritualis Opus. She says he made approaches while hearing confession. The claim goes back to the year 2009, but the woman reported it in 2014.<\/p>\n
As explained in \u201cNational Catholic Reporter,\u201d the woman received a letter from the Congregation explaining the priest had acknowledged that he had committed 'imprudent gestures on two occasions,\u201d that he had \u201capologized for them,\u201d and he was \u201cadmonished.\u201d Additionally, it said he had been instructed to be 'vigilant and prudent in the future.'<\/p>\n
However, in the Vatican statement, the priest says he is innocent, 'the accusation made against him is untrue, and asks that the canonical process already initiated continue.' In addition, 'he reserves the right for possible civil legal action.'<\/p>\n
