{"id":48535,"date":"2018-12-31T13:15:00","date_gmt":"2018-12-31T12:15:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www1.romereports.com\/2018\/12\/31\/papal-spokespersons-greg-burke-and-paloma-garcia-ovejero-have-resigned\/"},"modified":"2018-12-31T13:15:00","modified_gmt":"2018-12-31T12:15:00","slug":"papal-spokespersons-greg-burke-and-paloma-garcia-ovejero-have-resigned","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.romereports.com\/en\/2018\/12\/31\/papal-spokespersons-greg-burke-and-paloma-garcia-ovejero-have-resigned\/","title":{"rendered":"Papal Spokespersons Greg Burke and Paloma Garc\u00eda Ovejero have resigned"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In this press communication, the Holy See has officially announced that <strong>Pope Francis has accepted the resignation of the Director and the Vice Director of the Holy See Press Office, Mr. Greg Burke and Ms. Paloma Garc\u00eda Ovejero.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In turn, <strong>he has appointed Alessandro Gisotti, as the new Director of the Holy See Press Office.<\/strong> He has been working as the Coordinator of Social Media of the Communication Department.<\/p>\n<p>He published a brief comment thanking the pope for the position, saying: \u201cI will try to fulfill the task entrusted to me in the best of my ability, with that spirit of service to the Church and to the pope.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Assuming their positions in July 11, 2016, both<strong> Ovejero and Burke were the first papal spokespersons from outside the Vatican<\/strong>, coming in as professional journalists from COPE, Fox News and Time Magazine.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>American Greg Burke tweeted about his time at the Vatican, saying: \u201cThe experience has been fascinating, to say the least. Thank you, Pope Francis.\u201d He also goes on to say, \u201cAt this time of transition in Vatican communications, we think it\u2019s best the Holy Father is completely free to assemble a new team.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Spanish Paloma Garc\u00eda Ovejero also sent out a tweet in Spanish translating to: \u201cEnding a chapter. Thank you, Holy Father, for these two and a half years! Thank you, Greg, for your trust, your patience and your example.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>The resignation and futher change within the Vatican is effective Jan. 1, 2019. <\/strong><\/p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dec. 31, 2018.
