{"id":49467,"date":"2018-04-20T18:52:00","date_gmt":"2018-04-20T16:52:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www1.romereports.com\/2018\/04\/20\/late-czech-cardinal-bids-farewell-to-rome\/"},"modified":"2018-04-20T18:52:00","modified_gmt":"2018-04-20T16:52:00","slug":"late-czech-cardinal-bids-farewell-to-rome","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.romereports.com\/en\/2018\/04\/20\/late-czech-cardinal-bids-farewell-to-rome\/","title":{"rendered":"Late Czech cardinal bids farewell to Rome"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>These were Cardinal Josef Beran's final moments in his tomb among popes beneath St. Peter's Basilica.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>J<strong>osef Beran survived a Nazi concentration camp before later being subjected to religious persecution by the Communist regime in his native Czech Republic.<\/strong> Following 20 years of oppression, Pope Paul VI invited Beran to be named a cardinal in the Eternal City, where he remained in exile until his death in 1969.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Paul VI called for Beran to be buried in the Grottos, a gesture meant to honor all victims of persecution. <\/strong>Despite being the only Czech person to hold such a distinction, the cardinal's final wish was to rest in his homeland.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Czech officials, clergy and faithful gathered at the Pontifical College Nepomucenum, where Beran died, for the final Mass in Rome in celebration of the late cardinal.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Servant of God's casket will be transferred to Prague, where he will be warmly greeted before being granted a proper burial. <strong>Fifty years later, his wish is now being fulfilled.<\/strong><\/p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Cardinal Josef Beran's final wish is being granted: he will be buried in his homeland.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":0,"featured_media":23409,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[174],"tags":[],"acf":{"video":"https:\/\/youtu.be\/mmAzvnHNNWo","video_descarga":"http:\/\/attuale.romereports.com\/news\/bberantransfereng.mp4","international_url":"http:\/\/attuale.romereports.com\/news\/bberantransferint.mp4","type":"rrp","newsletter":"si"},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.romereports.com\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/49467"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.romereports.com\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.romereports.com\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.romereports.com\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=49467"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.romereports.com\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/49467\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.romereports.com\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/23409"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.romereports.com\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=49467"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.romereports.com\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=49467"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.romereports.com\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=49467"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
