The Gospels were placed on top of the casket.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Resident cardinals from Rome, basilica clerics and some ambassadors attended. Callista Gingrich, the new U.S. ambassador to the Holy See, was also present, along with her husband.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>CARD. ANGELO SODANO<\/strong><br \/>\n<em> \u201cToday, we want to bid farewell to the deceased Cardinal Bernard Francis Law.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Following the mass, as is the case with any cardinal's funeral in the basilica, Pope Francis participated in the rite of the blessing of the remains before burial.&nbsp;<\/p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>December 21, 2017.
