{"id":49907,"date":"2017-12-21T13:18:23","date_gmt":"2017-12-21T12:18:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www1.romereports.com\/2017\/12\/21\/pope-francis-asks-vatican-curia-to-not-let-itself-be-corrupted-by-betrayal-or-ambition\/"},"modified":"2017-12-21T13:18:23","modified_gmt":"2017-12-21T12:18:23","slug":"pope-francis-asks-vatican-curia-to-not-let-itself-be-corrupted-by-betrayal-or-ambition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.romereports.com\/en\/2017\/12\/21\/pope-francis-asks-vatican-curia-to-not-let-itself-be-corrupted-by-betrayal-or-ambition\/","title":{"rendered":"Pope Francis asks Vatican Curia to not let itself be corrupted by betrayal or ambition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As is the tradition leading up to Christmas, Pope Francis<strong> met with his main collaborators to reassess the reform <\/strong>he is carrying out and the challenges presented by the coming year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>POPE FRANCIS<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>\u201cSpeaking of reform, I think of the amusing yet pointed remark of Archbishop Fr\u00e9d\u00e9ric-Fran\u00e7ois-Xavier de M\u00e9rode: 'Making reforms in Rome is like cleaning the Sphinx with a toothbrush.'\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The pope said <strong>much patience, sensitivity and dedication are needed to reform the Curia<\/strong>, because it's one of the oldest and most complex institutions in the world.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>He also<strong> cautioned the cardinals and bishops of the danger of considering themselves better than everyone<\/strong> and asked them to not allow themselves to get wrapped up in conspiracies.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>POPE FRANCIS<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>\u201cAnother danger is those who betray the trust put in them and profiteer from the Church\u2019s motherhood. I am speaking of persons carefully selected to give a greater vigour to the body and to the reform, but \u2013 failing to understand the lofty nature of their responsibility \u2013 let themselves be corrupted by ambition or vainglory. Then, when they are quietly sidelined, they wrongly declare themselves martyrs of the system, of a 'Pope kept in the dark,' of the 'old guard'..., rather than reciting a mea culpa.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Pope Francis finished the encounter with a deeper reflection in which he<strong> explained the meaning of the reform<\/strong> he is promoting.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>POPE FRANCIS<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>\u201cA faith that does not trouble us is a troubled faith. A faith that does not make us grow is a faith that needs to grow. A faith that does not raise questions is a faith that has to be questioned.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The pope thanked them for their efforts and gave them two books, one about confession and the other about spiritual life.
