Proponents of the measure said the veto was anti-democratic.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The pro-life network of the same name collected nearly two million signatures throughout Europe. Their proposal would gives legal standing to human embryos, and cut taxpayer funding for embryonic stem cell research.<\/p>\n<p>However, on May 28, the Commission vetoed initiative, meaning it would not send it for a vote at the European Parliament.
