While leaders on both sides of the conflict claim victory, residents in Gaza see it differently.<\/p>\n<p>Over 2,200 Palestinians have died during the 50 day war, leaving survivors with nothing but mounds of rubble that was once their homes.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Like many in Gaza, the town of Shujai'yeh has been devastated, leaving over 100,000 people homeless.<\/p>\n<p>TAISEER KHAMEES HASSAN<br \/>\nGaza Resident<br \/>\n'In the midst of shelling, we can't sit, or walk, or drink water. \u00a0While the bombs hit during the day and night, we couldn't sleep, we always had our children on our laps.\u00e2?\u009d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The war's aftermath has taken its toll on families, especially children, leaving them with horrific memories of the attacks. Local residents have taken shelter in this school, still shaken by the conflict.<\/p>\n<p>MARIAM AHMAD AL MASRI<br \/>\nGaza Resident<br \/>\n'The children lose control of themselves, they get scared at night. I tell the children, don't be afraid honey.'<\/p>\n<p>ASEEL NABEEL ABU SHANAB<br \/>\n'We were kicked out from our house, and a missile hit our house, on my bed, my books, and my bag. We sleep on the floor, we don't have mattresses, nor anything.'<\/p>\n<p>UNICEF and several Catholic charities have been providing water and hygiene kits to survivors, while working round the clock to restore critical water infrastructures damaged by missiles. A return to normal life for these victims of war, however, may take much longer.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>August 28, 2014.
