J\u00f3zef Wesolowski, the former papal nuncio to the Dominican Republic, was formally placed under house arrest at the Vatican yesterday.\u00a0<\/p>\n
In a statement released by Vatican spokesman Fr. Federico Lombardi, Wesolowski was summoned by the Vatican's Promoter of Justice to face indictment charges.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The former nuncio was accused of sexually abusing minors supposedly committed during his stay in the Dominican Republic, between 2008 and 2013.<\/p>\n
At this time, he is no longer a bishop or a priest. The Congregation of the Doctrine of the Faith removed his clerical status back in June. Instead of a prison cell, he was placed under house arrest inside Vatican City due to his health condition.<\/p>\n
Fr. Lombardi stated that the indictment was due to the expressed desire of Pope Francis that the case 'be addressed without delay\u00e2?\u009d and 'with just and necessary rigor\u00e2?\u009d.<\/p>\n
