Argentine Cardinal Jorge Mejia passed away in Rome at the age of\u00a091. He was one the most experienced Latinoamerican cardinals in the Vatican.<\/p>\n
He took part in the Second Vatican Council and also studied with John Paul II, who eventually created him Cardinal in 2001.<\/p>\n

He was the Archivist and Librarian of the Holy Roman Church from 1989 to 2003, when retired at the age of 80.<\/p>\n
Two days after the election of Pope Francis he suffered a heart-attack and the new Pope went to visit him at the hospital.<\/p>\n
Upon his death, Pope Francis sent a telegram to his brother. In the message, the Pope explained that they were lifelong friends.<\/p>\n
