The Archbishop Emeritus of Genoa, passed away on Wednesday April 29th. ;<\/p>\n<p>He took part in the Second Vatican Council, making contributions on discussions about ecumenism and religious liberty. ;<\/p>\n<p>He was appointed as the Archbishop of Cagliari in 1984. Four years later, he was named a Cardinal by John Paul II. ;<\/p>\n<p>From 1987 until 1995, when he retired, he served as the Archbishop of Genoa. ;<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, at noon all the parish bells of his Archdiocese will ring to honor his life and service.<\/p>\n<p>With his death, the number of cardinals stands at 222.
