What happened on an Italian Navy ship after hundreds of migrants were rescued is proof: One woman gave birth not long after being saved.
;
Thousands of migrants have come to Italy's southern coast seeking a better life in recent years, and many have died during the journey. Over two and a half days, the Italian Navy rescued more than 5,800 people trying to reach the coast. It is the highest figure in the last few years.

Sadly, ten immigrants also died. Three were found on one boat, four in another, and three other bodies were recovered from the ocean.

Good weather has made these desperate journeys more frequent, as thousands continue to seek a better life away from the hunger and war that has consumed their home countries.

AC/ATO
Italian Navy
SV
-PR
up:GRT

[24
