The Archbishop Emeritus of Esztergom-Budapest died after a long battle with cancer.<\/p>\n<p>He was born in Hungary in 1927. Though his parents converted to Catholicism, they were of Jewish descent and were killed in the Holocaust.<\/p>\n<p>Ordained a priest of the Order of Friars Minor in 1951, he became a bishop more than 25 years later. Paskai was appointed archbishop in 1987 and elevated to cardinal the following year.<\/p>\n<p>Although he retired as archbishop in 2002, he participated in the Conclave that elected Pope Benedict XVI in 2005.<\/p>\n<p>There are now just 219 members of the College of Cardinals.
