Six hundred thousand were massacred, 400,000 died during deportation and more than 200,000 were forced to abandon their religion and convert is Islam. These are the numbers from the first genocide of the 20th Century, the Armenian genocide, in April 1915, which is represented by the red circles on this map.<\/p>\n
During his visit to Armenia from June 24-26, Pope Francis will address this tragedy, just as he did last year in commemorating the 100 year anniversary of the horrific happenings.<\/p>\n
