The Pope walked alone as he proceeded in the footsteps the two popes before him, St. John Paul II and Pope Benedict XVI, and visited the Auschwitz-Birkenau memorial.<\/p>\n<p>The Nazi concentration camp known as ;Auschwitz-Birkenau, opened in 1940 and was the largest of the Nazi concentration death camp.
