At today's General Audience, Pope Francis continued his catechesis on hope, using Jesus' encounter with two disciples mourning his death as an example.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The disciples, not recognizing Jesus until the 'breaking of the bread\u00e2?\u009d, \u00a0are an example of Jesus' 'therapy of hope.\u00e2?\u009d<\/p>\n
According to the pope, such hope is a 'patient accompaniment that gradually opens us to trust in God\u00e2??s promises.\u00e2?\u009d<\/p>\n

Dear Brothers and Sisters:\u00a0<\/p>\n
In our continuing catechesis on Christian hope, we now consider the Risen Jesus\u00e2?? encounter with the two disciples on the road to Emmaus.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Unrecognized, the Lord walks with them and listens as they tell of how their hopes were shattered by the tragedy of the cross. Jesus then slowly opens their hearts to a new and greater hope by explaining how the Scriptures were fulfilled in the suffering and death of the Messiah.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Only later, in the breaking of the bread, is he revealed as the Risen Lord, present in their midst. He then disappears and the disciples return to Jerusalem to bring back the good news.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The Emmaus account shows us Jesus\u00e2?? 'therapy of hope\u00e2?\u009d, based on a patient accompaniment that gradually opens us to trust in God\u00e2??s promises.\u00a0<\/p>\n
It also shows us the importance of the Eucharist, in which, like bread, Jesus 'breaks\u00e2?\u009d our lives and offers them to others. Like the disciples, we too are sent forth to encounter others, to hear their joys and sorrows, and to offer them words of life and hope based on God\u00e2??s unfailing love, which accompanies us at every step of life\u00e2??s journey.<\/p>\n
